Ultimate Frisbee is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport that combines elements of soccer, football, and basketball, but is played with a flying disc, commonly known as a Frisbee. It is enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels around the world.
Objective
The primary objective of Ultimate Frisbee is to score points by catching the disc in the opposing team’s end zone. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Basic Rules
-
The game starts with a “pull” (throw-off) from one team to the other.
-
Players cannot run while holding the disc; they must establish a pivot foot.
-
The disc can be advanced by passing it to teammates in any direction.
-
If the disc is dropped, intercepted, or goes out of bounds, possession switches to the other team.
-
Physical contact is not allowed; Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport.
-
A point is scored when a player catches the disc in the opponent’s end zone.
Field and Teams
The standard Ultimate Frisbee field is a rectangular shape, 70 yards long and 40 yards wide, with end zones 25 yards deep. Each team typically consists of seven players on the field at a time.
Spirit of the Game
Ultimate Frisbee is unique in its emphasis on the “Spirit of the Game,” which stresses sportsmanship, fair play, and respect among players. There are no referees; players are responsible for their own foul and line calls and resolve disputes through discussion.
