Yoga is a science and philosophy-based practice of the body and mind. Geared towards increased flexibility and a relaxed mind, Yoga moves the body through mindful stretching and breathwork to create symmetry and physical wellbeing. Yoga is a healing modality that is applied for general wellness, fitness, and a strengthened mind and body connection that originates in India thousands of years ago. Yoga can be practiced physically with the body and breathwork, mentally in its philosophy and guiding principles, and spiritually in the healing it provides, as the journey is unique to each practitioner. There is often the misconception that one must be flexible, able-bodied, or athletic to practice Yoga. Yoga should only compliment the belief-systems of the practitioner, as it explores the nature of Self and does not explore religious beliefs. The guiding principles of Yoga are used when navigating life’s challenges, including physical injury, self-growth, and recovery. The mind and body connection found when practicing Yoga includes strengthening motor skills, synapses of the brain, and increased memory function.
